Certification and Licensing
Graduates of the Wholistic Massage Therapy and Wholistic Health Practitioner Programs will receive Certificates of Completion. Those therapists who want to practice massage therapy in the State of California must check with each town/city for their licensing requirements. See our Contact Information for the major towns in Sonoma and Marin Counties. The State of California is considering statewide licensing (SB 412). Should SB 412 pass, graduates of Sky Hill Institute will be more than adequately trained to meet all of the requirements as they are presented in SB 412.
Both the Wholistic Massage Therapy and the Wholistic Health Practitioner curricula at Sky Hill Institute prepare graduates to take either of the two exams sponsored by the National Certification Board for Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork (NCBTMB, www.ncbtmb.com, 1-800-296-0664). Having passed either of these exams makes students eligible to become licensed in thirty-one states, and the number of states using the NCBTMB exam is growing. States not using this national exam either have their own state exam or do not require an exam. To find each state's massage board and most current licensing laws, visit www.massagetherapy.com/careers/stateboards.php.
We provide our students with information concerning the NCBTMB exam and strongly suggest that they take the exam upon graduation. The examination costs $225. (Applying for local licensure and the National Examination are the responsibility of the graduate.) To practice outside of California, graduates must become familiar with each individual state's requirements.
